TEFL Testimonials from the UK

We have included in this section letters recieved from former Kristal graduates who have gone on to work in the Middle East using our TEFL certificate.

Dear Brian

I would like to thank you again for the interesting and enjoyable TEFL course provided by you.

I have just been to the UAE and would like to pass on some tips for those seeking work over there.

The agencies are very helpful and are keen to employ people from the UK. Although I have no formal teaching qualifications I was offered three jobs. One was working as governess for children of the royal family; the others were teaching positions in Kindergarten. I also found someone offering TEFL courses in the Gulf News, a daily newspaper. I phoned them and they seemed very interested and asked for my CV.

The main problem for me was finding affordable accommodation. I needed an apartment big enough for myself and my teenage daughter, however no one could offer me immediate un-shared accommodation. I feel sure that if I could have afforded to stay over there a little longer I would have found what I needed. It is perhaps easier to be employed from the UK, where accommodation and flights etc will be all part of a package.

I did find that prospective employers where keen to know the qualities of the person they would employ and not so much what certificates they could display.

I enjoyed being over there and am keen to return. This time however I will make sure that I have enough money to keep me until I find what I am looking for or, perhaps try for a package.

I should add that I phoned my university careers department on my return who informed me that they had been previously seeking TEFL teachers for work in the UAE.

If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards
Joan D

Dear Brian

I kept meaning to write earlier but Internet connection in Syria is poor and work took over. A belated many thanks for the course. It certainly did help in finding work and , more importantly, gave me the confidence and some ideas for those first few lessons. There is lots of work available in Syria for English teachers and plenty of demand for private teachers. Syria is a wonderful place to live; laid back, calm and still providing good weather! A place to consider maybe for future EFL teachers?

Thanks again and best wishes,
Chara dL

Dear Brian

Thanks for the new Opportunity that your course has opened up for me, at 59 years old and having spent nearly thirty of those living abroad, its was not difficult to come to the conclusion that we are more comfortable outside the UK than in.

The TEFL Certificate in front of me is the passport to going back to Damascus with my Syrian wife to set up a school. We would not count our chickens beforehand, but now working out the possible earning potential we have decided that to wait until Easter and the finer weather would be a waste of time.

As you know we intend to drive the MGB to the Sun via France, Italy, Greece and finally by boat to Turkey and into Northern Syria. Passing Aleppo and your former pupil Chara d L at the BC.

We expect to be in Damascus for Christmas, to see the family and to start teaching in the New Year, 2003 will be an exciting year with plenty of challenges.

Thanks for your time and patience; I would not hesitate to recommend the Course to others. We will keep in touch as we climb the rungs of a new career.
